Two secluded and charming privately managed holiday houses nestled in authentically Greek Plomari, Lesvos
Philoxenia, literally translated as “friend to or love of the stranger”
but actually encompassing much more. This philosophy of hospitality,
kindness, open heartedness and generosity of spirit was valued by ancient
Greeks above all. It embodies our passion for Greece and, most
particularly, the people of Lesvos and the village of Plomari.
Secret Greek Escape offers two distinctive houses in Plomari, Lesvos:
Philoxenia Green in Kiprou and Philoxenia Blue in Amoudeli. Each house
has its own location, character and atmosphere, and both can be booked
directly on this site.
Philoxenia Green
– echoing the many shades of green of the orchard, olive trees, the valley
and the mountains beyond.
Philoxenia Blue
– for the many blues of the expansive sea views to the east, the south and
the west.
The Houses
Philoxenia Blue
Philoxenia Blue, our latest addition to the Secret Greek Escape portfolio, is a small gem with sensational sea views – to the rising and the setting sun. From the balcony, gaze out east across the rooftops of Plomari to the harbour and the coasts of Turkey and the island of Chios and to the west through filigree leaves to the sea and the cliffs beyond. If you can tear yourself away from the view, beautiful Amoudeli beach and the village centre are only a few minutes walk away.
Philoxenia Green
Philoxenia Green, our 140 year old stone farmhouse with glorious mountain views, set in an olive grove and fronted by a lush citrus orchard, evokes a Greece long forgotten. Savour the greens of the river valley, the sounds of the birds and the sweet fragrance of orange blossom in this oasis only a short walk to the village square and beach.
Authentically Greek
Plomari is a working town unspoilt by mass tourism. Although tourists are
welcomed, it thrives through it’s Ouzo and Olive Oil industries and does
not go to sleep when the last visitor leaves. The taverna’s, ouzeries and
kafeneions are charming and frequented by the villagers. The seafood from
the gulfs or Gera and Kalloni is delicious and inexpensive, and the lamb
and beef from the centre of the island is tender and sweet. Enjoy a
traditional Greek meal washed down with one of the many local ouzo’s – and
wander home along the winding cobbled roads for a siesta in the cool of
one of our luxurious houses.
