Sitting on the terrace downstairs or the balcony upstairs is a joy. The
panoramic view unfolds from the greens of the valley to the north with
misty mountains in the distance, across terracotta roof tops and pretty
houses, over the harbour with fishing boats coming and going and then
out to sea and the far horizon in the south. At times the coasts of
Turkey and Chios island are sharp and clear, other times they shimmer in
the haze.
And as the sun sets, the view through feathered trees over Amoudeli bay
to the west is sublime.
The beach and village are only a few minutes’ walk away, but this house
is situated high on a ridge and can be accessed on foot only. Either
climb up around 100 steps or walk up the steep road. We can arrange to
have luggage taken to the house.
"Philoxenia"...Love of strangers; eagerness to show hospitality.
Enter through the antique emerald front door into a beautiful entrance hall with the fresh and cool bedroom in shades of white, cream and soft grey to the left. Enjoy a great nights’ sleep on the uber comfortable mattress with fine cotton bedlinen, and in the morning wander out onto the covered terrace to soak up the view. Sip your morning coffee gazing out over the jigsaw puzzle of brightly coloured houses and the many blues of the sea.
The bathroom ensuite with large shower is spacious and airy.
Up the original narrow winding staircase is the large open living / dining / kitchen area. Stretching from the balcony facing the rising sun all the way to the windows facing the setting sun, the space is authentically Greek - traditional with a clean, contemporary feel. Open the windows and shutters on both sides and let the cool breeze blow through. Or if you would rather, there is an air-conditioned for the hot steamy days of summer.
The kitchen is charming and well equipped with stove, hob, small fridge, Nespresso coffee machine, toaster and kettle.
In the evening, the colours over the rooftops change and the balcony is shady and cool. Enjoy a sundowner and then walk to the village to experience meze or dinner in one of the many excellent tavernas.
The old house was a near ruin when we bought it. As an architect / interior designer couple who have built or renovated many houses together, we wanted to give this Secret Greek Escape a modern feel – light, bright and stylish yet convenient and comfortable, retaining an authentic Greek character. We believe Philoxenia Blue reflects that dream.
